When Nordbygg welcomes its visitors to Stockholmsmässan April 23 – 26, the global goals, gender equality, sustainable energy and sustainable cities are high on the agenda. To promote young talent, young architects, among others, are involved in the “New Eyes on Wood” student competition.
As the largest construction and real estate exhibition in the Nordic region, Nordbygg is building the industry in more ways than one. This is where architects, developers, property managers, installers, craftsmen and project managers meet to make contacts, learn about innovations and do business.
During the four days of the fair, the program includes 300 lectures and exhibitors from the entire construction and real estate industry.
– It is a real sign of strength that Nordbygg, in the midst of a major construction crisis, has almost 900 exhibitors and it shows how important the meeting place is. We want to give back to the industry by creating a relevant meeting environment that both highlights and celebrates the industry,” says Lina Hann, project manager for the trade fair.
More women in the industry
The construction industry is a male-dominated sector and Nordbygg wants to help highlight female role models in construction to attract more women to the industry.
– The construction industry is full of cool women and the fair includes a networking event for women in construction,” says Lina Hann. We also have a collaboration with Byggföretagen that runs the initiative Construction Woman of the Year, where the winner will be announced on April 25 at the fair’s AW Nordbygg by Night.
Want to involve young talent
The industry not only needs more women. It also needs to be replenished with new young talent. One way of highlighting the young perspective is Nordbygg’s student competition New Eyes on Wood, which this year is run together with Swedish Wood, with the support of Swedish Architects. Students from Sweden’s schools of architecture compete here and the winner’s entry is displayed on one of the stages in the fair’s entrance hall.
– Since 2012, Nordbygg has, with support from Architects Sweden, conducted the student competition New Eyes on, where different building materials and innovations have been in focus over the years, says Tove Wallsten, Architects Sweden. It is a popular competition and a unique opportunity for architecture students to participate in the whole process from design to construction. This year, it is particularly exciting that the task involves one of Nordbygg’s stages and that the room the students have created will become a central place for conversations about innovation and development.
In close cooperation with industry stakeholders
Six trade associations are co-organizers of the fair and in close collaboration with them and a number of other leading organizations, actors and businesses, content and programs have been developed.
This year’s co-organizers are the trade associations:
Building material industries
Energy and Environmental Technology Association
Glass Industry Association
Installation companies
Swedish Ventilation
Plumbing manufacturers
Nordbygg hosts the Roomvent2024 research conference.
Nordbygg also hosts the Roomvent conference, which is attended by delegates from all over the world. The conference is one of the world’s most important in ventilation and indoor climate and thus puts an extra spotlight on one of Nordbygg’s largest exhibitor groups and their issues.
See you at Stockholmsmässan!
