Net Zero Carbon Events
Stockholmsmässan is affiliated with Net Zero Carbon Events – a global industry initiative to address climate change. The events industry has a particular role to play in tackling climate change as we provide meeting places and marketplaces to work on solutions to the climate crisis.
First venue in the
Nordic region to join
Stockholmsmässan is the first venue in the Nordic region to join the initiative. The facility is certified according to ISO 20121 – sustainability at events, and already has the goal of developing a plan for fossil-free and climate-positive operations. This work has started.
The initial objective of the initiative is to collaborate and promote the creation of a net zero pledge for the events industry.
– We have a responsibility to minimize our impact on climate change. The events industry is a complex network of stakeholders including companies directly involved in delivering events, such as venues, event organizers, exhibitors and their suppliers who provide equipment and on-site signage, among other things. Addressing carbon emissions throughout the value chain is complex and challenging, and many elements of an event (such as transportation and hotel stays) are not directly under the control of those of us who organize an event. Therefore, we must first define the responsibility and scope for the event industry to become zero. We believe in collaboration to achieve this,” says Linda Elmén, Sustainability Manager at Stockholmsmässan.
