Published on 2025-05-06

When the World Tunnel Congress 2025 is held in Stockholm on May 9–15, Stockholmsmässan will be transformed into an international meeting place focusing on the future of underground infrastructure. More than 3,000 experts from over 80 countries will attend this world-leading congress for tunnels and other forms of underground work.

“We are extremely proud to welcome World Tunnel Congress 2025 to Stockholmsmässan. Our facility is designed to enable meetings where innovation, knowledge and international cooperation are at the center. The congress is not only important for the industry, but also proof that Stockholm is an attractive venue for scientific events,” says Anna-Karin Werner, Business Area Manager Congresses and Guest Events at Stockholmsmässan.

The World Tunnel Congress (WTC) is an annual international congress and exhibition. For the first time, Sweden is hosting the event, which is organized by the Swedish Society of Mining Engineering with the support of the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association (ITA). The practicalities are being handled by Meetagain, a PCO (Professional Conference Organizer) based in Stockholm. In the initial planning, Stockholm Business Region played an important role in bringing WTC 2025 to Stockholm.

“The World Tunnel Congress is a strategically important event that strengthens Stockholm’s role as a leading city for sustainable infrastructure and technological innovation. By gathering the world’s experts here, we show that Stockholm is a place where the solutions of the future are shaped – at the same time as the congress contributes to the city’s international visibility and economic growth,” says Karin Mäntymäki, Head of International Market Development at Stockholm Business Region.

Sustainability and Swedish engineering in focus
The theme of WTC 2025 is “Tunnelling into a Sustainable Future”, focusing on how underground solutions can contribute to sustainable cities and infrastructures. Sweden is highlighted as a pioneer in technological innovation – from historical pioneers such as Alfred Nobel to today’s world-leading companies and projects in electrification, autonomous systems and climate-smart solutions.

The congress will feature nearly 600 presentations, technical site visits including Förbifart Stockholm and the new Stockholm Metro, and a comprehensive exhibition with over 160 exhibitors.
