Three days for creative minds

Published on 2025-02-18

For the fifteenth year in a row, Sweden’s largest fair for sewing, needlework and self-creation comes to Stockholmsmässan. On February 21-23, creative people of all ages will meet at Sy- & Hantverksfestivalen.

Sweden’s largest fair for sewing, needlework, knitting, crocheting, jewelry making, handicrafts and self-creation will be held in Malmö, Gothenburg, Stockholm and Umeå. Linnea Olsson is the project manager for Sy- & Hantverksfestivalen, which will be held at Stockholmsmässan on February 21-23 and October 24-27.

It is a fantastic meeting place for the creative where you meet people with the same interest. It is meetings across generations where you go and have coffee and cozy. We make sure that the meeting place exists, but it is the exhibitors and visitors who create the content and the joy of it,” she says.

TIME FOR YOUR OWN CREATION
Creativity and making characterize the Sy- & Hantverksfestivalen, which always draws an enthusiastic audience. Interest in needlework remains strong and the desire to create is greater than ever. During the coronavirus pandemic, people found the time to be creative and make things with their hands, and now they’re making time for it. People who come here are interested in the same thing, says Linnea and continues: You get the tactile, feel the fabric, see the shades of the yarn and talk to all the passionate exhibitors who are experts every single one of them, says Linnea.

Here you can shop on the spot and you get that fabric and yarn to take home. Crochet, knit, tuft, craft or try something completely new in crafts. 150 exhibitors are on site with fabrics and yarns in different colors, sewing machines, patterns and much more. There will be workshops, sales and areas where visitors can try out different techniques. The festival is for everyone, from beginners to those who are more experienced. The great thing is that we have many inspirational areas and workshops that teach different techniques. If you want to try something new, we’ll help you get started. We have the knitting and crochet market which is popular. You can dye yarn, braid bracelets and there are craft and jewelry workshops, says Linnea.

MEETINGS AND INSPIRATION
At the Sewing & Crafts Festival, you can undertake projects large and small. This year, for example, you can buy a tote bag and personalize it at the various exhibitors at the fair. You can also choose to sew your own dress from start to finish. At HandarBytet, you can hand in craft or sewing projects that you have not finished. They are usually called UFO – unfinished objects. You can also hand in leftover yarns and pieces of fabric so that someone else can take over and create something new from them. Perhaps you will find something that has been started and that you want to take home with you.

– It’s like a swap, it’s a very appreciated feature that we have at all our fairs. Not least for all the meetings that take place between those who leave their needlework project and those who find something new to take over, says Linnea. During the spring fair, there is also the opportunity to attend exclusive lectures focusing on design, sewing and knitting. Bea Szenfeld, Margareta Hallin, Ivar Asplund and Johanne Ländin will each hold a lecture during the fair.
