We are looking for a new owner

Published on 2024-04-25

800 000 visitors. This is how many people are expected to pass through Stockholmsmässan’s premises in 2024. Stockholmsmässan has been the largest meeting place in the Nordic region for many years – now an exciting future awaits with a new owner.

For over 80 years, Stockholmsmässan has organized meetings between people. Each year, the 70,000 square meter venue hosts numerous fairs, events, congresses and conferences, attracting hundreds of thousands of national and international visitors. This has created added value for meeting organizers, but also for Stockholm’s economy.

Stockholmsmässan is now taking the next step towards an exciting new future. This means both a new CEO and a planned sale to a private operator.

– The 2024 calendar is fully booked and we expect 800,000 visitors during the year. Stockholmsmässan is very attractive as a meeting place and there is a great need for this type of arena for physical meetings. We have room for 27,000 visitors at the same time, which allows us to have closed industry seminars in parallel with open fairs. “The fair is the largest in the Nordic region, which makes it very interesting to continue developing together with a commercial player,” says Staffan Ingvarsson, CEO of Stockholmsmässan.

Staffan Ingvarsson stepped in as the new CEO in early February and has very positive thoughts about the fair now and in the future.

– The business is not one that municipalities typically engage in, and we have therefore decided to sell the company to a private player who can focus more on international cooperation and add new value to Stockholm as a meeting destination,” he says.

The process of finding a new owner for Stockholmsmässan is in full swing, and in parallel, work is also being done on this year’s planned fairs and meetings, as well as what the fair may look like in the future. There are plans for urban development in Älvsjö after 2028, when the fairgrounds will make way for new housing, workplaces and sports areas.
– We will operate as usual until the end of December 2028. In parallel, we are working with the City of Stockholm to find a new owner and figure out what the best meeting places for the 2030s will look like. Our visitors help create economic impact in the city, but we also create added value for the different industries that visit us through knowledge sharing and inspiration,” concludes Staffan Ingvarsson.
