ISO certification

Since 2019, Stockholmsmässan – as the first facility in Stockholm – is certified according to ISO 20121, an international standard for sustainability at events. Sustainability is about taking into account the needs of current and future generations. At Stockholmsmässan we focus on social, environmental and business sustainability as we create meetings that move people and society forward.

Sustainability at events

Stockholmsmässan’s mission is to promote Stockholm as one of Europe’s leading meeting places. The mission also includes strengthening the competitiveness of the business sector in the region. To achieve our mission, we must operate in a way that is sustainable for people and society. Our ISO 20121 certification is proof that we are able to reconcile these two important missions, and we are proud to do so.

Stockholmsmässan is committed to improving the execution of meetings and events based on our sustainability policy. We work in dialogue with employees, customers, visitors, suppliers and other stakeholders on continuous improvements to drive a more sustainable meetings industry.

Linda Elmén, Stockholmsmässan’s Sustainability Manager, is proud of the ISO 20121 certification.
– The certification is proof of our sustainability efforts, but we are far from finished. There is much more to do, both for us as companies and for the industry as a whole. As a major player, Stockholmsmässan wants to contribute positively and take responsibility, and it feels good that Stockholm has a facility that demonstrably offers sustainability at events. We want to offer a sustainable meeting place for the customers and visitors who choose to place and visit events with us, but of course also for the events we organize ourselves. As a major player, Stockholmsmässan can influence and contribute to a more sustainable meeting industry. We want to be an example and a role model,” says Linda Elmén.

Facts ISO 20121
ISO 20121 is an international standard for sustainability at events, launched at the London 2012 Olympics, hence the name. ISO stands for the International Organization for Standardization. The fully correct name of the standard is SS-EN ISO 20121:2012.

Bureau Veritas Certification Sweden is the certification body for Stockholmsmässan’s ISO 20121 certificate. The certification is a third party certification and is verified by an external auditor. The certification means that Bureau Veritas will annually audit compliance with ISO 20121 at Stockholmsmässan.
